Vacancy Announcement: Library Assistant (X9 Posts)

The Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture invites applications from suitably qualified and interested individuals for the following positions:

Position: Library Assistant (X9 Posts)

Salary: R216,417 – R254,928 per annum (Level 05, all-inclusive remuneration package)

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric).
  • A Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Library and Information Studies will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of library systems and government regulations.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with circulation duties, including processing library memberships and renewals.
  • Organize and shelve books and other library materials.
  • Provide assistance with reference queries.
  • Maintain positive relations with library stakeholders.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and compile statistical reports.
  • Assist with library advocacy, marketing, and awareness programs.
  • Help establish book clubs and library structures.
  • Facilitate children’s programs and user orientation.
  • Manage library donations and oversee ICT and mini-library services.

Important Notes:

  • Applications must be submitted on a fully completed and signed Z83 Form (effective from 01 January 2021), available at any Public Service Department or online at www.dpsa.gov.za/documents.
  • Do not attach copies of qualifications or supporting documents at the application stage. A detailed CV must accompany the Z83 form.
  • Applicants using the e-recruitment system will not be disqualified for an unsigned Z83 but will be required to sign it if shortlisted for an interview.
  • Shortlisted candidates must submit certified copies of qualifications before the interview date.
  • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate on or before the interview date.

Selection Process:

  • Skills and knowledge assessments may be conducted.
